I have a customer who needs to scan books. The books are in all different sizes. If they were to cut the spine of the book and scan it in, whick scanner would work? They need to look up chapters, quotes, subjects, and dates. Which software solution would be good? I was thinking of the ricoh IS330DC.

The IS330 would work great for the scanning piece, however you need to look at an OCR solution and indexing solution for the actual storage and retrival of the books and docs. What exactly are they trying to accomplish with this solution? They need to be able to create a searchable PDF is what I am gathering.

We are doing that already with just Adobe Acrobate Full version. You must set up categories in Adobe. You can then place the files in olders and get "ok" search in Adobe.

Using OmniPage Pro 12, you can bring a scan in and recognize it with several different options. My favorite option creates a PDF file with image on text. The PDF can't be edited, but it is searchable.
