Xerox Integrates Document Management Solutions with Newest Release of Microsoft Office System.

XML-Enabled Offerings Help Businesses Be More Productive, Cut Costs.

ROCHESTER, NY, Oct. 21, 2003 -- Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) today announced its support of the newest Microsoft Office System release, adding advanced XML (eXtensible Markup Language) support to its document management solutions and enabling clients to work within the Microsoft Office System to improve document-intensive business processes.

By integrating XML into its offerings, Xerox Global Services is able to help clients such as Continental Airlines to ensure faster, more efficient aircraft maintenance, on-time departures and an estimated annual cost savings of more than $750,000.

"Nearly all fundamental business processes are governed in some way by documents," said Thomas J. Dolan, president, Xerox Global Services. "By combining our expertise in document management with the new capabilities of the Microsoft Office System, which were formally announced today, we're building on existing knowledge, technologies and work processes to help clients use documents as a tool to drive productivity and growth."

Research conducted by Xerox indicates that workers spend up to 30 percent of their workday looking for information in documents. For Continental Airlines and for McGraw-Hill Construction, it is a competitive advantage to make that time more productive and less costly. Using Xerox Global Services' document management solutions has reduced time spent on critical business processes for Continental Airlines and McGraw-Hill by 50 and 35 percent, respectively.

"The XML support in the Microsoft Office System enables faster delivery of the information users need to be more productive," said Joe Eschbach, corporate vice president of the Information Worker Product Management Group at Microsoft Corp. "Xerox's understanding of the document and its role in the work process is helping our mutual clients achieve even greater value from their daily use of the Microsoft Office System."

For Continental Airlines, Xerox Global Services used the built-in XML support in the Microsoft Office System to increase the value of Continental's engineering documents, resulting in improved comprehension of maintenance advisories for FAA regulatory compliance and streamlined reporting procedures.

Xerox Global Services expects to increase customer retention for McGraw-Hill Construction with a subscriber Web site that combines document repository services with the familiar Microsoft Office System. The site, www.construction.com, provides architects, construction managers and suppliers with access to more than 70 categories of information on impending construction projects, enabling instant retrieval of data needed to prepare bids and manage project schedules.

Xerox Global Services helps companies streamline and digitize their document-intensive business processesSM such as product documentation and customer communications. Xerox Global Services works with clients to identify, quantify and realize hidden opportunities to reduce costs, find new sources of value and simplify how work gets done.
