Does anyone have any competitive information on this new color mfp from Xerox?

Attached is a proposal from one of my pending deals.

A couple points of interest:

1. Xerox makes no mention of whether the 3400 copies included in this proposal includes color. This leads to a "he said, she said" scenario where the prospect says that Xerox said it did and we say it does not (this should be simple enough to solve).

2. It is probably a typo, but Xerox has quoted .0109 for excess color pages (should probably be 10 cents).

3. When we did some recon by calling Xerox and looking on the website the cost of operation alone on color exceeds 10 cents per page.

4. When I checked my area, no one within an hour services this machine which is based on a Phaser engine. Xerox service said that they basically walk you through what needs to be done, sending you parts and instructing you on how to replace them. Service is available at a steep rate of over $200 per hour for the first hour and then something per 15 minutes remaining hours.

5. I don't have a color copier that is this cheap that I can offer, so I plan on selling against color explaining that color will inevitably triple their monthly copying expense (a little week, but what can you do). I will focus on the customers need for a reliable business machine and the fact that this copier cannot even be serviced locally and that the last thing they want to do is enter into a 5 year lease on a machine that can't be serviced.

6. I was told that this 24ppm machine is up to 24ppm because it uses the wax stick technology and that like an inkjet it slows down considerably when page coverage is increased. Anyone have any information that confirms this?

7. This system looks great on paper and I'm sure that Xerox will sell a load of them. It seems like the only way to beat this thing is to educate the prospect.

Thanks for any input.

Good News, I won against this system about a month ago! Bad News, I won with the OKI 1624MF!

The Xerox XC2424 is just another reason Ricoh needs to develop a color MFP system with no 11 x 17 capability!

You could switch gears and offer ther CL2000N with the IS200e. However, I think the customer will be unhappy with the FCOT. On the other hand he or she may not.

"upto" usually means that when you print at the highest resolution the print speed will be reduced. I would tend to think this is true with this system and Xerox has been using the word "upto" in many of its systems.

I am concerned about the high cost of maintenance. At $125.61, Xerox should be receiving an extra $4,651 for service over five years encompasssing a total of 204,000 pages. If they are jus tblack pages the customer is paying .0241 for maintenance!!

I then took at look at the "crayons" (wax), that they customer will need to buy. Based on pricing from the Xereox web site, you will receive three small wads of wax for $109, and the yeild is 3,400 pages for color based on 5% coverage not. The supply cpc for CMYK totals .11359. So, the total is .13449 per page. The Xerox web site did show other consumables, but I do not know if they are covered or not. I do know that Xerox is manadating the customer to replace these consumable items themselves.

Notes from OP Maintenance:

Note
To minimize waste ink and optimize performance, leave the printer on all the time.

Replacing the Maintenance Kit
The orange maintenance kit (labeled A) contains a maintenance roller that keeps the surface of
the imagining drum clean and oiled.

Note
Order a new maintenance kit when the control panel displays a message telling you that
the maintenance kit is nearing the end of its life. To order a new maintenance kit, contact
your local reseller or visit the Xerox web site at www.xerox.com/office/c2424supplies.
Instructions are included with the new maintenance kit.

Caution
The system’s interior may be hot. Do not touch the hot surfaces!
The system stops printing and displays an error message when the maintenance kit needs
replacement.

To replace the maintenance kit:

1. Open the side door.

2. Pull the orange maintenance kit (labeled A) completely out of the system.

3. Insert a new maintenance kit.

These are notes from Xerox OP Maintenance. There seems to be quite a few items that the end user has to perform plus there may be "hidden costs" with these additional maintenance kits.

Does the customer really need color copying for the price that Xerox wants? Why not propose a AC205 with a CL2000N? The cleint can then scan2print for the color copies that they need. Just an idea, maybe you have to drill a little more to find this out.

We have defined that the cost per copy for color is .13449, I believe there are dome hidden costs.

Clarify the customers color copy needs and then clarify his color volume.

Wish I could help more!

Art Post
If you are going with the CL2000, you had better do it quick..."Inventory of the Aficio CL2000N (EDP Code 420116) has been depleted and this model will be discontinued in 30 days. Please communicate to your dealers as soon as possible that they should no longer order the Aficio CL2000N.

We will not officially announce the discontinuation of a product until 30 days after Ricoh's inventory has been depleted, giving our dealers the opportunity to sell through their inventory.

Please advise your dealers to purchase the newly launched CL3500N."
