LONDON, March 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust (WWL) has announced it is to implement enterprise content management system (ECM), OnBase by Hyland, in a move that will enable the award-winning provider to further enhance patient care. It follows WWL's decision last year to introduce Allscripts Sunrise™ Acute Care electronic patient record which, together with OnBase, is set to provide the trust with a world-class solution for managing both clinical data and 'unstructured' information.
OnBase will automate clinical and administrative processes, such as referrals, and provide digital access to a wide range of disparate data, including correspondence, output from medical devices and clinical systems, photographs, audio and video content, as well as scanned patient documents. The close integration of OnBase with Allscripts enables clinicians to securely and seamlessly access one complete medical record for each patient, from a range of devices, including notebooks, mobile phones and tablets.
WWL, which was named 'Provider Trust of the Year' by the Health Service Journal in November 2014, delivers acute healthcare services to the borough of Wigan and surrounding areas. Its facility at Wrightington Hospital, a Centre of Excellence, is internationally renowned for its work in orthopaedic medicine and pioneered full-hip replacement surgery in the 1960s.

OnBase is currently used by more than 1,600 healthcare organisations, to manage unstructured clinical and business data. Its dedicated nurses, therapists, health information management and software specialists, underpinned by a series of healthcare advisory boards, have a long track record in working with providers of clinical applications, which has recently seen OnBase and Allscripts cooperating on the implementation of an integrated system for the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital.

Due to be fully implemented towards the middle of 2016, the system will be rolled out across all of WWL's facilities. Once implemented, OnBase will enable WWL to become paperlite, thereby providing better control on how information may be used to enhance patient care. In the longer term, the ECM system may also support the Trust in introducing other process enhancements, which will further maximise the return on the investment.
