Panasonic Combines Proven Performance And Rich Functionality In New MFP Series
Featuring the advanced technology of Panasonic's departmental-class digital
systems, the WORKiO DP-2310 and DP-3010 copy, print, scan, and fax.
Secaucus, NJ _ Panasonic introduces a new series of WORKiO digital imaging
systems that suit the volume requirements of workgroups, yet deliver the
high performance of departmental multifunction products (MFPs).
The new, network-ready DP-2310 and DP-3010 take the strongest features of
the WORKiO DP-2500 (rated "most reliable" in the 2001 copier dealer survey
by The Office Products Analyst), and combine them with the superb
functionality of the ground breaking 60-page-per-minute WORKiO DP-6010
document imaging system.
The DP-2310 and the DP-3010, which copy and print up to 23-ppm and up to
30-ppm, respectively, follow in the WORKiO tradition of reliable products
that are engineered to last. They each come with a combination of features
and functionality that is virtually un-matched in workgroup MFP's
especially at their lower speeds and costs.
Both models perform a multitude of functions and come standard with network
printing, document management software, and an enhanced graphical user
interface (GUI) that raises the bar for ease of operation. The control
panel features an oversized 8-inch diagonal, half-VGA (640 x 240 pixels),
touch-sensitive, LCD display and a logical, intuitive layout for quick
access to any function.
With the WORKiO in copy mode, the LCD panel shows both the original image
and what the final output will look like, for true WYSIWYG operation. This
feature alone represents a potentially substantial savings in both time and
paper. When being used remotely, the WORKiO system can automatically send
a Job Completion Notice to the user's PC.
With the DP-2310 and DP-3010, leveraging your network has never been
easier. Both WORKiO models can be connected to a LAN right out of the box
via the built-in 10Base-T/100Base-TX Ethernet interface. In addition, both
come with a USB port for direct connection to a PC.
The WORKiO MFPs offer 600-dpi, high-speed network scanning and Internet fax
(scan-to-email) capability.
Except for the difference in their speed, the new WORKiO models are
jam-packed with the same cutting-edge features and capabilities. In this
latest series, Panasonic has not only taken the best of the best, but has
also added several enhancements to these digital systems, including:
New dual-component engine
Lower cost-per-copy (based on toner, developer, and photo-conducting drum)
Enhanced preventive maintenance schedule
According to Paul Wharton, product marketing manager for copier/fax/MFP,
Panasonic engineers grafted the electronic architecture of the feature-rich
WORKiO DP-6010 onto the frame of the award-winning WORKiO DP-2500 to
create the new series.
"These digital imaging systems are very well-suited for today's networked
business environment," Wharton said. "They provide consistent quality up
to 23 or up to 30 pages-per-minute. And with only a few [finishing]
exceptions, the DP-2310 and DP-3010 can do literally everything the
feature-rich DP-6010 does."
Wharton added that the new multifunction machines offer a high degree of
document management productivity and low ownership cost, while being very
easy to use.
COPY FUNCTION
The new, high-volume WORKiO models copy up to 30 (DP-3010) and up to 23
(DP-2310) copies-per-minute, with a first-copy time of less than 4.5
seconds.
With 600 x 600 dpi resolution and 256-level grayscale, image quality is
equally impressive. Also, Panasonic has incorporated new image-processing
technology, including ultrafine toner and carrier particles that are 20%
smaller and provide accurate image reproduction. The result is crisp,
legible copies with virtually no blurring of small characters, and
virtually clear, sharp photos.
The new WORKiO models have inherent network connectivity with a standard
Ethernet interface, enabling a number of convenient copying features.
Concurrent Copy allows the system to handle up to 12 jobs at a time. For
extra-large-volume copying, Tandem Copy enables two of these WORKiO's to
work jointly on a single job. With Remote Copy, jobs can be sent to
another WORKiO unit across the LAN in another room, or even in another
building. Proof Copy outputs a proof set for double-checking before
committing to a large quantity.
PRINT FUNCTION
The new WORKiO's include intelligent network printing capability using
Windows. Printing System technology. Print speeds (letter) are up to 30
(DP-3010) and up to 23 (DP-2310) ppm1. These WORKiO units can handle paper
sizes from invoice to ledger.
Image quality is driven by 600 x 600 dpi resolution with 256-level
grayscale. Panasonic's exclusive Image Enhancement Technology further
improves printout quality to 1200 dpi, resulting in superb photo and
graphics reproduction with clear, crisp details and smooth gradations. In
addition to standard Windows printing, optional printer drivers provide
PCL5e/6 and genuine AdobeR PostScript 3R capability. Printing flexibility
is further enhanced with the built-in automatic duplex unit.
The printer can be controlled from a desktop, allowing the user to check
the virtual printed results on the left side of the printer driver screen
while specifying commands via the GUI. Finishing results can be confirmed
on-screen, and the new visual status monitor allows the status of a remote
WORKiO to be checked in real time, enabling a quicker response to such
problems as paper jams and depleted toner. In addition, documents can be
stored in a user's personal mailbox or security box _ with space for up to
100 users _ and printed at a later time. Intelligent job control
management is another important benefit of the new WORKiO series. Using
the enhanced GUI, the print queue can be viewed and even deleted for each
print or copy job, and approximate job times can be displayed. On a
network, the administrator can monitor device status with the job queue and
other WORKiO controls, as well as set up or configure the system.
SCAN FUNCTION
With network scanning capability, the new models offer high-speed
digitization of paper documents. Originals up to ledger size can be
converted to PC data. With up to 600 x 600 dpi resolution and 256-level
grayscale, original images and text are reproduced accurately. The
standard, automatic duplex document feeder holds up to 50 sheets (20-lb
bond) at a time and can batch feed using Job Build up to a maximum of 999
pages.
Built-in network connectivity enables scanned documents to be transferred
to any client PC on the LAN _ a far more efficient way of sharing documents
than printing out copies. The multi-protocol, multi-network design ensures
that the systems can connect without fail across all Windows, Macintosh,
and Unix network operating systems.
The new models allow a user to either convert a paper document into PC data
using the Scan-to-File function, or scan a paper document and send the
scanned data to a specified PC using the Scan-to-PC function. With
Scan-to-FTP (file transfer protocol), scanned data can be transferred to an
FTP server on the network, so images can be downloaded to the client PC or
transferred to another network via the Internet. Images can be
automatically scanned and directly launch third-party applications such as
OCR, email or graphics program. The control panel's user-friendly,
animated LCD displays the progress of the scanning operation.
DOCUMENT MANAGEMENT
The standard Document Management System software makes desktop document
management easy, allowing efficient handling of scanned documents and other
PC data. When a scanned image arrives on a PC, Document Manager
automatically alerts the user. Using the document viewer, comments can be
added or memo slips attached to the image. Scanned documents can be
managed by drag-and-drop and shared by network PCs. And with the provided
Panafax Desktop software, a fax can be sent directly from a user's PC
without having to print it.
Panasonic's optional DD Storage System is provided for large-scale document
management on a client-server network. When DD Server software is
installed, scanned documents are stored on the DD Server automatically, and
the proprietary DD code is stamped on the document's cover page. With the
code stamp, a document can be quickly retrieved from the server and
printed. Any PC on the network can also retrieve stored documents from the
Document Manager screen.
FAX FUNCTION
With the optional fax communication kit, the WORKiO is transformed into a
high-speed, 33.6 kbps Super G3 fax, transmitting at about 3 seconds per
page2 (letter). Panasonic's 0.7-second Quick Scan makes short work of prep
time. Quick Memory Transmission saves even more time by connecting to the
receiver and beginning transmission while still collecting data. And with
the WORKiO systems' high-resolution scanning capability, 600 x 600-dpi
resolution is available for G3 fax or Internet fax.
With the Internet fax option, paper documents are converted to TIFF-F or
PDF image files and transmitted as email attachments via the LAN.
Sometimes called "free fax," this Send-to-Email feature enables the
document to be sent directly to other Internet devices, or even to multiple
email clients worldwide. When LAN and PSTN lines are used at the same
time, email/G3 mixed broadcast is a convenient way to send the same
document to both email addresses and G3 fax machines.
Paperless faxing is yet another WORKiO capability. Image files sent as
email attachments can be easily opened and displayed using the existing
image viewer (e.g., Imaging for Windows.) for paperless fax delivery.
WORKiO's fax/email gateway function can automatically route received faxes
to the designated recipient's email inbox. Similarly, documents sent from
a PC via the LAN can be transmitted to a G3 fax machine.
PAPER HANDLING AND DOCUMENT FINISHING
The WORKiO's offer a generous standard paper capacity of up to 1,150 sheets
(2 x 500 + 50), with options for up to 2,250 sheets from 5 sources. The
standard built-in, stackless duplex unit ensures trouble-free, high-speed
duplex copying. Automated, inline document finishing is also available.
Document production is accelerated by features such as N-in-1 copy for
copying multiple originals on a single sheet, Zoom Copy for specification
of enlargement/reduction ratios and Image Rotation for accurate copies,
regardless of paper orientation. Sort Copy electronically collates copies
as shifted or rotated sets; adding expandable sorting memory further
enhances sorting capability.
EASE OF MAINTENANCE
Jam removal has been enhanced over their predecessors so removing defective
paper from the paper path is even easier than before. Toner cartridge
yields have been increased from 10,000 to 15,000 pages (at 6% coverage of
an 8 = x 11 sheet of paper) so replacing toner is done two-thirds as often.
Panasonic's remote maintenance system includes Check & Call, which
automatically reports low-toner status and certain mechanical problems to a
service center. Panasonic's expert technicians use a remote diagnostic
system to quickly identify most problems via telephone and offer a
solution.
As with all WORKiO systems, the new models are Energy Star-compliant and
feature the Energy Saver system that significantly reduces power
consumption to only 28 watts in Standby Mode and a mere 18 watts in Sleep
Mode. The low-noise, zero-ozone emission design helps keep the office
environment clean and quiet.
