Western Digital has fighting words for partner Toshiba as the Japanese company considers selling its chip unit to another suitor.

San Jose-based Western Digital has been pursuing exclusive discussions with Toshiba to purchase its chip unit. But one of its executives issued fresh attacks on Toshiba on Monday, according to a Bloomberg report.

“We are deeply troubled by the tension between the depth of Toshiba’s desperation and their willingness to do things that we didn’t think they would do in other situations,” Mark Long, Western Digital's chief financial officer, told Bloomberg. “A lot of this, in the initial phases, is going to be overshadowed by the desperation of Toshiba to deal with their crisis as it has grown from a problem to an all-consuming disaster."

The jabs come as Western Digital has argued that selling the chip unit to a third party is a violation of its existing partnership’s between its SandDisk Corp. subsidiary and Toshiba, claims the Japanese company has refuted.  You can read the rest here
