The question "Is Virtual Copier the same as Desktop Binder?" comes up quite often. Here is what one of our Ricoh dealers has to say"
"If you asked an IT person if VC and DesktopBinder technically do the same thing, they might say yes. That's like saying that technically a Yugo and a Lexus do the same thing. VC and DesktopBinder are not alike and should not be positioned so in a sale.
The real power of the VC product is that it can set you apart from your competition (ie. other vendors with different product lines or more importantly, other vendors with your same product). We position the free DesktopBinder solution as a workspace that a customer should use to merge print jobs from different files, view the documents stored on the hard drive of the MFP, etc.
We do not position DesktopBinder it as a document management system. The user interface is not intuitive and doesn't provide you with enough levels of storage or keywords to allow you to quickly locate a document.
Most importantly, we use the VC product as an opportunity to generate revenue, sales revenue and service revenue for the install and maintenance. It's difficult to generate revenue from a free product."
