doing the research today for an HP T630 for ink, and print head costs.

The amount of ink used for printing a 24"x36" wide-format construction drawing can vary based on several factors such as the print quality settings, the complexity of the drawing, and the specific printer model. However, there are some general estimates available.

On average, for a black-and-white construction drawing, it is estimated that approximately 1-2 milliliters of ink is used per square foot .

Let's calculate this for a 24"x36" drawing:

  1. Determine the area of the drawing:

    • 24 inches x 36 inches = 864 square inches.
    • Convert square inches to square feet: 864 square inches / 144 (since 1 square foot = 144 square inches) = 6 square feet.
  2. Calculate the ink usage:

    • Using the average of 1.5 milliliters per square foot (as a midpoint for 1-2 milliliters):
      • 6 square feet x 1.5 milliliters per square foot = 9 milliliters of ink.

Thus, a typical black-and-white 24"x36" construction drawing would use approximately 9 milliliters of ink.

For more precise information, you may need to refer to specific data from HP or perform test prints with your particular printer setup.

One black ink cartridge holds 38 ml of ink.  The cost is $42.00, thus the cost per ml of ink is $1.05.  Thus the cost is $1.05 x 9 = $9.94 per 24"x36"

Anyone care to chime in on the findings?
