Two New imageRUNNER Series from Canon
New MFPs Extend Canon's Unique Multifunction Embedded Application
Platform to Small Departments and Corporate Workgroups.
Canon U.S.A., Inc., a subsidiary of Canon Inc. (NYSE:CAJ) today announced the launch of its imageRUNNER 3320N/3320i and imageRUNNER 2220N/2220i Series, a powerful quartet of advanced multifunction imaging systems incorporating Canon's unique MEAP(TM) (Multifunctional Embedded Application Platform) architecture.
Designed to support the demanding needs of small-to-mid-sized departments and corporate workgroups, the imageRUNNER 3320N/3320i and imageRUNNER 2220N/2220i Series offer the ability to embed multiple customized, simultaneously active applications within the device to maximize user-friendliness and streamline document workflow.
"Canon considers the inclusion of MEAP architecture a key workflow
differentiator for our customers,' said Dennis Amorosano, director and
assistant general manager of the Integrated Business Systems Division
of Canon U.S.A. "We launched the Canon MEAP architecture in a
mid-range line of MFP models last May to help businesses improve
productivity and reduce costs. With the imageRUNNER 2220/3320 Series
we offer the same extensive customization capabilities and
powerful network connectivity to an expanded array of business users,
including smaller enterprises and corporate workgroups."
The compact, energy-efficient imageRUNNER 3320N/3320i and
2220N/2220i are 33 page-per-minute (ppm) and 22-ppm(*) digital
black-and-white copier-based MFPs, respectively. All offer Canon's
superior image quality and support true 600 x 600 dpi resolution, 1200
x 600 dpi interpolated copy resolution, and 2400 x 600 dpi
interpolated print resolution. The operation and programming
capabilities of the imageRUNNER 2220/3320 Series are quick and
intuitive, and offer multiple points of control: at the device, from a
desktop, or using Canon's standard full-color, touch-screen user
interface panel. All four models ship standard with Ethernet network
connectivity and a Canon-designed Printer Kit with support for PCL
5e/6 and PostScript 3™ emulation page description languages.
Continuous innovation has been the hallmark of Canon's extensive
line of multifunction products, and the company has long been
recognized as the market share leader in the digital imaging
marketplace(**). Canon MEAP architecture is a unique, open, Java-based
development platform for Canon imageRUNNER MFPs that permits
unprecedented application design flexibility for customers. Ushering
in a new era of office automation, MEAP architecture resides as a
functional capability on the imageRUNNER, enabling Canon, third-party
developers and customers themselves to develop applications that
automate and control any aspect of document workflow right from the
user interface, without the need for a separate workstation or other
hardware.
Through Canon's Universal Send™ network scanning and
distribution capabilities, and integration with eCopy's suite of
document distribution solutions, the imageRUNNER 2220/3320 models
serve as a centralized office communications hub for information
sharing and knowledge management across an extended enterprise.
Canon's Universal Send network scanning and distribution
capabilities, standard on the imageRUNNER 2220i/3320i models, make
collaboration an affordable reality for smaller businesses and
workgroups. Users can scan and distribute information to multiple
destinations, including individual or groups of e-mail and
Internet-fax addresses, internal mailboxes and network or host folders
and Super G3 Fax destinations(***)(optional), as well as to document
management applications such as Canon's imageWARE application. New
Universal Send network capabilities include the ability to preview a
document prior to sending and to register up to five LDAP (Lightweight
Directory Access Protocol) servers for access to company-wide email
addresses. Each imageRUNNER 2220i/3320i also will ship standard with a
10-user version of the eCopy Desktop software (optional with
2220N/3320N models).
eCopy's ShareScan OP software, expected to be available later this
quarter, extends document distribution functionality on 2220 and 3320
models through its extensive support for third party applications
including e-mail, LAN Fax, and document management software. Unlike
previous versions of eCopy ShareScan, ShareScan OP will run embedded
within imageRUNNER 2220/3320 Series models, eliminating the need for
external hardware, and strengthening already robust enterprise level
management capabilities in the software.
Building upon the award-winning design of previous imageRUNNER
devices, the imageRUNNER 2220/3320 Series offers productivity
enhancements and exceptional multifunction performance including a
250Mhz processor, 256MB RAM and a 10GB hard disk as standard
equipment. Each model also ships standard with a Document Feeder and
Image Reader (scanner). New features include user authentication (both
Simple Device Login and Single Sign On) and a host of
productivity-enhancing copy features, such as Scan-Once-Print-Many,
Copy Reservation, Automatic Trayless Duplexing, Cascade/Remote Copy,
Page Numbering, and Forms Composition.
