OSAKA (Jiji Press) — U.S. President Donald Trump called himself a fan of Japan’s Sharp Corp. when he met with the leaders of Sharp and its Taiwanese parent, Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., at the White House last month, it was learned Monday.
Hon Hai Chairman Terry Gou and Sharp President Tai Jeng-wu discussed U.S. investment plans with White House staff members on April 27 and held talks with Trump on the following day, Tai said in a message issued on Sunday to Sharp employees.
Trump told the two that he is a fan of Sharp and that he has big expectations for Sharp products, according to the message.
Sharp, based in Sakai, Osaka Prefecture, is now rebuilding its operations under Hon Hai, also known as Foxconn Technology Group.
The flash memory business of struggling Japanese electronics and machinery giant Toshiba Corp. did not come up in the talks between Trump and the two Asian business leaders, according to a senior official of Sharp. Speech
