I was doing a routine collection of meter reads from an HP M4345 MFP the other day when I noticed in addition to the Meter Counts there was a column for units.

This customer was being billed one unit for letter pages and 1.3 units for Legal pages. A duplex Letter page was 2.0 units, etc. A #10 Envelope was 0.4 units. I think these are the default values.

There were 16 different page sizes where the HP Service provider could vary the unit count.

You might want to mention this to a customer next time you are up against HP.

I wonder if Lexmark or other printer vendors are able to do this?

Also at the end of the report, after 67k pages the report stated that Toner Coverage was 3.94%

Having done MPs for a few years now, I can say that the vast majority of machines run at 5% or less.

There are certainly customer who run at 7% or 10%, but I'd say the number that run at 2-3% far outweigh them.
