Basically the copier is a standard current model e306 with special blue toner inside it. The blue toner is slightly faded like an old mimeograph machine. Toshiba choose blue so users could easily identify which pages could be erased.

The pen is from Pilot called a Frixion. The pen is not expensive and can be multiple colours.

Pages can be erased up to five times. There is a very slight residue image on the erased page. Each page that passes through the toner erasing device has an invisible mark placed on it.

People are generally amazed when they see it working.

At this time the cost with the eraser unit is approx 30% more than a standard e306. A few years from now, who knows?

I just spoke with oneof my Toshiba guys today and they just had an "open house" with this model for state and local government. He stated the system garner much attention and buyers stated that it would help with achieving their "green" initiatives. He also stated that the system printed or copier in blue.
We have brochures our rep has given us and are already marketing to our clients, for the launch in a couple months. Cost of toner is approx 15% higher compared to the current 30-50PPM toner, so we've been told. This unit is going to really help us a Toshiba dealer, especially for the larger accounts that are flooded with Ricoh units and reps Smile

I could see companies that do a lot of business with governments using them. For instance, I have a client that works with prison systems throughout the USA. They occasionally have to respond to RFPs that require the proposal documents to be printed on paper with a minimum % of recycled content. It would also probably play well in markets that are big on "being green". Think the West Coast, Colorado, Austin & the like.

What is the retail cost of the e306 now, and when this comes to market will your company offer a cpp on the new device? One more question for you, are their any additional consumables due to the erasing device?
The Eraser unit does not actually remove any toner from the page. The special blue toner or ink turns transparent by chemical process when heat is applied. There is no waste toner bottle. This is possibly why the same piece of paper can only be erased 6 times. Estimates are for 50% reduction in CO2 compared to a conventional MFP.

The Eraser unit requires no additional consumables.

The e306LP (the Eco MFP) is about the same price as a regular e306. The extra cost is for the Eraser unit. One Eraser unit could support multiple e306LP's. The e306LP is marketed with a CPP.

That's a nice feature to have, thus with eh additional info, it's probably better to have the eraser unit next to the MFP right? Can you buy an additional eraser unit, my reasoning would be to keep the additional one located where the shredder would be (if the shredder was in a different room.

Are there any other unique features with e306?

BTW thanx for all of the info on this!
