Toshiba, a pioneer in the field of managed print services (MPS), has been encouraging dealers for the last seven years to shift their business perspective from copier dealer to managed print provider. While some early adopters ventured into the managed print space with Toshiba soon after the introduction of the Encompass MPS program, many others continued on with the status quo. As the economy took a turn for the worse several years ago, the business case for building an MPS practice was strengthened exponentially.

Recently, TABS wrapped up their inaugural LEAD 2010 conference series. These interactive conferences — which stand for Learn, Engage, Act, Deliver — were held in four regions throughout the U.S., and were designed to provide office technology dealers with the tools and knowledge to help them succeed in selling and implementing Managed Print and Professional Services. Also announced at LEAD was the LEAD Academy. Slated to open in the fourth quarter of this year, it will provide an ongoing, self-paced, education and certification program for dealers online. While LEAD was designed primarily for executive management, the academy courses will be more tactical information for sales, service and consulting specialists.
