Chinese state-owned Tsinghua Unigroup, may acquire Toshiba and Scandisk according to an earlier report published by Digitimes that cited anonymous industry sources. The targeted companies own precious NAND patents and by acquiring them, Tsinghua will become an independent provider of DRAM and NAND flash memory.
The move comes as a natural consequence of Tsinghua failing to acquire Micron Technology earlier on after Committee of Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) expressed concerns over a Chinese company taking over a major US manufacturer. As such Tsinghua now lays its eyes on the Toshiba and SanDisk that jointly develop NAND flash technology. read more here
