Amy Johnson and son selected as first to shred bad memories from 2013 in Times Square at Good Riddance Day on Dec. 28
CINCINNATI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--December 19, 2013--
Cintas Corporation (NASDAQ: CTAS), a leader in secure document management, today announced that Amy Johnson and her three-year-old son, Bodey, are the winners of the Fourth Annual Good Riddance Day Contest. As the grand prize winner, Johnson and her son will receive a five-night trip to New York City for Good Riddance Day on Dec. 28. They will be the first to say "good riddance" to cancer during the Good Riddance Day event in Times Square.
Bodey has Down syndrome and was born with congenital heart defects. At age one, he underwent open heart surgery to repair two holes in his heart. The next year, he was diagnosed with cancer and went through another surgery to remove a large tumor on his right kidney. Following seven months of chemotherapy, Bodey's cancer has been in remission since April 2013. Bodey started preschool in October and loves art and music. He and his mom are looking forward to saying goodbye to cancer and starting 2014 happy and healthy.
"Since Bodey was born, he has been such a blessing, and together, our family has had to overcome many challenges," said Johnson. "We are so thankful he is healthy now and are excited to say good riddance to the difficult memories from this past year."
This year, nearly 2,000 people across the nation submitted descriptions of a memory from 2013 they would like to say "good riddance" to before heading into the New Year. A panel of judges from the Times Square Alliance, Countdown Entertainment and Cintas Document Management selected Bodey and Amy as the winners of this year's Good Riddance Day Contest.
"Bodey's story is so inspiring and we are thrilled to have him and his family join us in New York for Good Riddance Day," said Karen Carnahan, President and COO, Cintas Document Management. "We are grateful to all of the contestants who participated and will securely shred their entries on Good Riddance Day so they can all have a fresh start to a new year."
For this annual New Year's tradition, Cintas welcomes all who want to say "good riddance" to participate. The company will have mobile shredding trucks stationed in Broadway Plaza between 46(th) and 47(th) Streets where participants can watch the physical evidence of their funny, outlandish and forgettable memories of 2013 get shredded and permanently discarded. A rubber mallet will also be available for items that require smashing. The event takes place on Dec. 28 from noon to 1 p.m. EDT in Times Square. It is open to the public to discard any unpleasant, embarrassing and downright depressing memories from 2013. An iPad will be awarded to the participant with the most intriguing "good riddance" story.
