Starting an IT company using the break/fix model used to be the industry standard and seemed to make sense: you pay for the time that is spent trying and hopefully resolving your client’s problems. Then the IT industry matured and went from addressing key IT concerns in a reactive manner to providing a stack of proactive services focusing on the business outcome. So, basically, the IT industry, moved from focusing on reactively fixing issues to focusing on benefits for the client and operating business in an operational and performance-optimized manner. more here
