Syngenta Renews IT Infrastructure Services Agreement with HP
Dec 13, 2011 PALO ALTO, Calif., Hewlett-Packard (Schweiz) GmbH today announced Syngenta Crop Protection AG, a Switzerland-based global agribusiness, has signed a seven-year infrastructure services agreement extending its long-term services relationship with HP.
With this agreement, Syngenta will move parts of its technology infrastructure to a private cloud computing environment using HP Cloud Computing Solutions supported from HP data centers. This will give the company secure processing capacity and real-time data access, allowing it to adjust quickly to changing business conditions at a predictable cost.
The new cloud model will allow Syngenta to operate a test environment in the cloud where new concepts are tested in research and development. It provides an environment with flexibility for expansion where Syngenta only pays for the compute capacity it consumes. This will enable researchers to quickly deploy the compute and storage capacity required to run complex and resource-hungry bioinformatics computations.

To protect Syngenta’s data, HP will deliver a set of HP Security Services that provide comprehensive oversight of the private cloud environment in compliance with Syngenta’s security policies and standards.
In addition, HP will deliver a tiered services model for Service Desk and Site Support Services to modernize the digital workplace, including computing devices such as desktop and notebook PCs and printers, for the company’s 26,000 users spread across 90 countries. This includes virtual desktop as a service for about 5,000 users.
HP will deliver these infrastructure services from HP global delivery centers in Argentina, Bulgaria, China, India, the Philippines and Slovakia, which gives clients greater flexibility and cost efficiencies while minimizing risk.
