Supply Question Savin Ricoh

I'm pretty sure that the only difference between the Ricoh and Savin is the toner ring. We have had to change out all old Savins and put the Ricoh toner ring on them so we could use Ricoh toner. Hope this helps

Yah, but this is the all-in-one cartridge. I did that too when converting a Savin model to use the Aficio 551 toner.

I shall answer my own question. Yes and No. The Ricoh TYpe 185 will not fit the Savin 9918dp without modification. There are four tabs protruding from the side of the cartridge that is inserted into the machine. These tabs are staggered differently between the Savin and Ricoh models. However, two of the four tabs are common and one of them goes into the hole that has the switch for sensing the cartridge. So, you can remove two of the tabs (I suppose even three if you want) to make the cartridge universal ... but don't snip the wrong one! ... OR, all of the openings exist in the machine for each cartridge scenario, the others appear to be blocked by a plate. If that is the case, you might just remove the plate and then never have to snip a tab. Of course, the machine is quite dated and not exactly a favorite in the used arena, so I am just typing this for my own satisfaction. Thanks for reading my BLOG.
