ESSEX — Monday night's Special Town Meeting will cover old proposals, such as on to purchase a new copier for Town Hall, and new business, such as the proposal to bring in an appraiser to once again explore the properties of Conomo Point.

The town warrant features 20 articles, some of which revive calls to address spending needs that voters rejected in the May election to override tax-limiting Proposition 2 1/2.

Money to buy a new police cruiser, set up a donated modular unit for the police station, and purchase a new copier for Town Hall all failed in the May referendum, but due to the discovery of nearly $800,000 in unspent revenue, they are back on the table.

New police radios are also proposed to comply with new federal regulations. Funding for police overtime for special events, which is not part of the police budget, will get a second look as well at the special meeting, set for Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Essex Elementary School.

The warrant seeks authority for selectmen to acquire a new Town Hall building, and town officials are looking at the newly-vacated former Lahey Clinic building on Martin Street. The $599,999 listing price for the building, however, would take most of the unspent revenue.
