Students shine in Schools Environmental Art Competition

Students from Sustainable Schools put their artistic talent to the test in this year’s Ricoh Environmental Art Competition. The judges deliberated for two hours to decide the winners and congratulations goes to Dee Why Public School who took out the Group Mural competition.

The Sustainable School’s Program (SSP), now in its 2nd year, has encouraged local primary school students to take an environmental approach to school life and promotes awareness. The Ricoh sponsored Environmental Art Competition provides a medium for students to creatively express the environmental values promoted through SSP.

“With 70 individual entries received this year, it was pleasing to see a huge display of talent on show,” commented Neville Cooper, Quality/Environment Manager for Ricoh Australia.

“We were overwhelmed with the creativity of the kids this year and extend our congratulations to all students who submitted artworks. The teachers from the participating schools are to be also commended as many have integrated the art competition in to the class curriculum this year.”

Cash prizes were presented to the winning entries at an awards ceremony at Manly Vale Public School. The prize money will be used to further establish Environmental projects and to enhance the biodiversity of school grounds.

The Schools Art Competition was run in conjunction with a community-based exhibition themed “The Year of the Built Environment”. Ricoh also sponsored this competition and donated $1000 prize money.

The Sustainable Schools who participated in the competition included:
- Beauty Point Public School
- Dee Why Public School
- Manly Vale Public School
- Manly Village Public School
- Middle Harbour Public School
- Warrimoo Public School
