Staples to try again to buy Office Depot
Staples, owned by Sycamore Partners, now offering $1 billion or $18.27 per share to acquire Office Depot’s consumer business
- Includes Office Depot stores, OfficeMax stores, brand names and websites
- In past, Staples tried to buy Office Depot in 1997 and in 2016, but federal government blocked on antitrust grounds
- (acquired DEX Imaging in 2019)
- Now says “it is confident it will be able to obtain necessary antitrust approvals”
