Connection to SNMP server down when customer trying to access printer preferences from workstation or printserver. (which causes a printing issue)

workflow workstation -> 2003 print server -> plotbasepm

Customer does have two communities. for read has public and somsnmp they are slow to transition for everything to somsnmp. They do use snmp to monitor servers, etc.

on plotbase I disabled windows firewall, added somsnmp to community in snmp services.

If I use my laptop, works ok to pull up preferences when I access plotbase directly without going through printserver.

rw480 172.19.3.247
plotbase 172.19.3.248
my laptop 172.19.5.138

subnet 255.255.248.0 172.19.0.1-> 172.19.7.254
I am using wireshark and snmpget to see what is working.

Could use some ideas and explanation on troubleshooting.
used smartdeviceadmin twice, once with each comm. name, picked up diff. printers each time as expected.

I've had the snmp error on a few 240's and 480's and have two differant fixes. 1) changed the hostname in plotclient to the ip address. 2) shutdown plotbase controller and removed plotbase interface card, restarted pc to make sure it doesn't have the card still present in the device manager, then shutdown and reinstall interface card and reboot. That refreshed the connection and brought the communications back to the workstations when they tried to read the preferences.Is this plotbasepm controller on the same domain?
