Sneaky hidden data in copiers

- JDSupra, a magazine for the legal vertical, published report warning customers that MFPs are still being overlooked for security threats
- Instructs customers to “include copiers in your equipment inventory risk assessment, risk management plan and retention/destruction plans”
- “it is prudent to ensure that copying equipment is managed by the same information technology team that secures data on your company’s laptops, smart phones….”

Yeah except that the MFP's typically are leased with service contracts so a working machine needs to be returned at the end of the lease so they can't do the same thing as they would with a company owned asset like a phone. They just need to be working with their service provider on what they want done at the lease end to satisfy their concerns. All of the machines now have the ability to securely erase their data they just need to use it.
