Sheriff's Deputies Raid Printer Cartridge Business
PHOENIX - Sheriff's deputies raided a business near 49th Ave. and Van Buren arrested 25 people in the country illegally who were using fraudulent IDs to gain employment.
Sheriff's spokesman Brian Lee says the raid was part of a potential employer sanctions case against Lasermasters, a company that supplies printer cartridges. Deputies used search warrants
at Lasermasters to search records of 35 employees who were suspected to be illegal immigrants.
Lee says the remaining 10 suspected illegal immigrants either no longer work there or didn't show up for work.
One of the 25 arrested was turned over to ICE. The others were arrested on local charges. Josefina Almendar says the raid has torn her family apart.
Michael Almendar is not a U.S. citizen. Arpaio says Almendar is an illegal immigrant who used false documents to get a job at Laser Master on west Van Buren.
Another person arrested is Alex Solorio's father. The 17-year-old boy will now have to take care of his two little sisters and mother alone.
Lee says the investigation began after deputies received a tip on an immigration hot line six months ag
