Sharp Ships Mid-Volume Copiers With High-End, Multitasking Controller At Appealing Price Points

AR-M355U and AR-M455U digital IMAGER TM document systems can be upgraded easily to include network print, network scan and Super G3 fax capabilities as business needs evolve

MAHWAH, N.J., March 1, 2005 - Sharp announces a new pair of workgroup copiers that deliver fast document reproduction with copy speeds up to 35 and 45 pages-per-minute and up to 3,100 sheets of online paper capacity.
These new document systems come equipped with Sharp's award winning Scan2 technology, which enhances productivity by scanning both sides of a double-sided document in a single pass. Additionally, these modular copiers can become full featured multifunctional peripherals (MFPs) offering network printing, network scanning and Super G3 fax capabilities as business
requirements evolve.

"Sharp offers a wide range of products that help customers meet their document management demands. From robust stand-alone digital document systems to fully networked multifunctional devices that combine copying, faxing, scanning and printing in a single unit, Sharp has the right product to meet any business need," said George Grafanakis, Senior Product Manager,
Sharp. "The AR-M355U and AR-M455U use the same multitasking 300 MHz controller available in our fully connected MFPs but at an attractive price point that will appeal to a wide variety of businesses and workgroups."

Sharp's multitasking controller technology helps companies manage their document workflow quickly and efficiently. For example, users can run business-critical jobs simultaneously, such as copying presentations for a meeting while faxing and e-mailing reports.

Advanced Copying Features for Greater Efficiency
To handle key document reproduction needs, the products include advanced features such as page stamping, job build, ID card shot copy and cover pages. Job build allows large jobs to be temporarily stored in memory and then copied as a continuous set. Card shot copies both sides of an ID card onto a single piece of paper, a handy feature for businesses such as doctors' offices, which regularly copy patients' insurance cards. Page stamping marks the page number on unmarked pages for easier reference, and cover page allow users to add an extra page to a copied set to give
documents a professional look.

Upgradeable Copiers Grow with a Business
The new AR-M355U and AR-M455U IMAGERs can be upgraded easily to become
networked models offering powerful printing, scanning and fax capabilities
in one space-saving device. By adding the PCL6 network printing system,
the
user gains a 40 GB hard disk drive, where users can store frequently-used
forms, reports, bills and other key documents. The PCL6 printing system
also offers flexible job control features that include print auditing and
multilevel job retention so that frequently repeated print jobs can run at
the touch of a button.

Advanced Security to Protect Confidential Information
To help businesses protect their documents and network, these new models support Sharp's industry-leading, layered security strategy. Offering up to six levels of advanced security, Sharp's award-winning Data Security Kit ensures that all documents that pass through IMAGERs are protected. With features that include confidential printing, user authentication and secure scanning, Sharp can protect confidential information from the most sophisticated threats and help companies meet regulatory requirements such as HIPAA.
