On the new color systems the Product Information Guide and Pricebook state that the USB Option is required for printing and scanning from USB. You can get around this in some respects. Scan to will work fine without the option and print from will work with TIFF images without the option.
To print PDF documents from USB you will need PDF direct print which is included with the option or with PostScript but you can print TIFF images directly without it.
You can scan and print from USB by simply using the USB ports located on the left side of the machine. It just needs to be enabled in service mode.
To turn on the feature do the following:
Go into service mode CA - 107 - CS
Go into Printer SP
Select Service Mode
Go to 1110 and set it to a 1 and press the #
Now exit and go into Scanner SP
Select Sysyem & Others
Select 1013 and set it to a 1 and press #
Hopefully this helps some of you out. If nothing else you can enable the option to see how it works or to demo it.
By the way the procedure for scanning also works on the previous generation of color systems if you didn't already know that.
