We just launched this little color mfp. On the surface it looks like a good machine for the SOHO, Executive Row, etc... However, our reps were very disappointed with the copy quality of copied color originals, prints are great. Does anyone know if there is a way to improve this? For lack of a better term, the copies are marbelized or speckled with white throughout.

If the customer wants to buy from CDW or Officemax they are more than welcome to buy it at $799. If they want to buy it from us for $999, we're happy to sell it to them. Most people are going to throw the thing away after 60k. If sold in the right environment, it should be a long time before they reach 60k. We normally educate our customers as to the costs of operating these type machines, however there is always someone who sticks their head in the sand and doesn't want to hear it. In that case, we have this product also. With this we can say, "Hey you want to copy, print, fax, scan and have color, we can do it for under $1000. Yeah, it will cost you a fortune on supplies, but at least now we have a dialog. The difference between buying it from a retail store and from us is that we're more educated about our products, so we're worth the extra couple hundred of dollars. Also, we can track their volume and upgrade them in the future to a product that is more cost effective and/or better suits their needs. It's also cheap enough that you can build it in and give it away. The fact of the matter is there are thousands of inkjet machines out their costing people a fortune and they don't know and/or don't care. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em (not that we can't beat 'em, just not all of the time).

We're undecided on service. We're thinking about offering a 30k agreement parts and labor only, knowing that nothing "should" need to be replaced until 60k. Hopefully, we can capture the aftermarket that would be going to CDW or Officemax.
Sounds like you may need to do a copy calibration. I would look in the manual and give this a shot. Most of our color machines that go out the door do not get a copy calibration before they leave our office (it has lost me a few potential sales on other color units).

I will be installing my first one nect week and plan to buy one for my self. The I can ditch the CL3000, ny scanner, my fax and my inkjet

Thanks, I checked in the manual and all that I saw was calibration for printing. I'm not sure it's a calibration issue, take a look at the attached samples...The first is a print and looks very good, the second a copy and is pretty crappy, the last is one that I scanned and then printed to take the generation theory out of the mix. The scanned and printed would be an acceptable copy, but I think that it is unobtainable through the copy feature. After researching in more detail, I found that the scan/copy resolution is 600 x 600dpi (I'm assuming black) & 600 x 300 dpi (I'm assuming color). The scan resolution is 1200 x 2400 dpi from the platen and 1200 x 600 dpi through the ADF. My only thought is that because the copier does not have a lot of memory it cannot scan at high enough dpi to deliver the copy quality that we are accustom to seeing. The work around is that you can scan in your original and print it at better quality. This is more than most people will care to do. See attached.
