You need to work out and be able to put one one page
What you sell
Who you sell it to
How you are going to sell it

Then in my opinion you need;
An identity and brand (logo and tagline)
a domain name of your business eg: www.personalfinance.com
an e-mail at that domain Dave@personalfinance.com (if you have a personal e-mail address it looks unprofessional)
10 pages (like www.dylangray.com) that are simple, professional and structured correctly ( I can help you with that - no charge)
a virtual phone and fax number / answering service eg: voyagen.com ($100/month)
a customer relationship database (recommend salesforce.com for multiple people or ACT if it just you)
a source of business leads
a source of places to network and learn from others
ask for help not sell people

Problem:
The customer is your boss.
Solution:
A friendly reminder: you're working for the customer, not for your paycheck. Treat everyone as though they're your paycheck. By treating your customer with respect, you'll continue to make more contacts.
