Wind River®, a world leader in embedded software for intelligent connected systems, announced that Ricoh is using Wind River Simics during the development of their next generation multi-function printers (MFPs). Simics is a full system simulator allowing companies to accelerate their software development process. By using simulation to remove the dependence on physical hardware, not only can teams start development sooner but they gain flexibility and efficiencies throughout the entire process - from design, test to debug.
Ricoh is a global technology company that covers a wide range of businesses segments including office imaging equipment, production print solutions, document management systems, and IT services. Ricoh is using Wind River technology to develop their next generation MFPs that have printing, scanning and copying functionalities.
"Ricoh is consistently working to deliver new innovations to the imaging equipment market as well as its peripherals and service market. After previously trying a variety of other tools, we selected Wind River Simics after it had demonstrated tangible value very early on during our development process," said Yasuyuki Nomizu, general manager of controller development center, Imaging Systems Development Division at Ricoh. "Simics allowed us to increase efficiencies, reduce our development efforts and dramatically shorten the entire development process."
Simics is able to help teams change their approach to development and identify and solve problems faster, ultimately delivering a high-quality product to market more quickly. Using Simics simulations, testing and debugging can take place much earlier in the process using unique techniques such as fault injection, inspection of any element within the system, and precise and repeatable reverse execution. Simics can also improve collaboration and increase efficiencies across hardware, software and QA teams regardless of their location by providing shared access to a full system simulation, snapshot functionality and greater visibility, keeping all teammates on the same page.
"Ricoh is on the leading edge of the MFP market, constantly delivering inventive technologies. Wind River is committed to helping customers like Ricoh innovate quickly and keep schedules and budget on track," said Michel Genard, vice president of tools and lifecycle solutions at Wind River. "With Wind River Simics, the ability to develop, test and work through problems much sooner in the development process gives teams a key advantage, resulting in higher quality code and faster time-to-market."
