Ricoh, a major maker of office equipment, plans to more than triple its sales from information technology and communications services over the next five years to 100 billion yen, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported, citing company sources.

The sales goal was set in tandem with the firm's launch of services ranging from planning and building IT and communications systems to installing and managing them, the newspaper reported.

Ricoh Technosystems, its subsidiary, intends to tap demand mainly from small- and medium-size companies, which are major buyers of Ricoh's (otc: RICOY - news - people ) copying machines and printers.

Ricoh Technosystems will integrate the IT-related services that other Ricoh subsidiaries have been conducting. To this end, the firm has set up a systems monitoring center and a call center, the newspaper said.

Ricoh group companies booked about 30 billion yen in revenue from IT-related operations, apart from sales of hardware and software, in the year ended March 31, the report said.
