Just some stuff I found, they do not make mention of printing. I will guess thaat they are using HP drivers. We had a compnay similar to this in Jersey w/custom software and everything was written for HP printing. I would call the them in Mass and clarify. I have posted the number for you.TECHNOLOGY

MEDITECH's corporate culture drives innovation, which is reflected in our ability to deliver maximum performance at minimum cost, and continually update customers' systems. We offer our Health Care Information System (HCIS) on both a Microsoft® Windows®-based Client/Server platform and on a platform using our own MAGIC Operating System. MEDITECH offers a full range of software applications for today's health care facilities, available in both technologies

Running Windows® and Intel®

Windows

All of the main components of MEDITECH's operating system, MAGIC, have been ported to create an executable program that runs on Intel-based machines with Windows® 2000. Windows 2000 is installed in such a way that it is largely hidden from view, with a primary purpose to provide MAGIC with access to device drivers.

MAGIC includes a user interface that features familiar Windows® conventions such as desktop icons, drop-down menus, and dialogue boxes in our applications. This user interface was developed for customers who are satisfied with the functionality MAGIC offers, but at the same time would like a system that incorporates a Windows-like environment.

Intel

We have worked with our hardware partners to develop specific configurations suitable for MAGIC/Intel. Currently, we have certified configurations from Compaq, Dell, and IBM. Also, EMC storage systems can be used with servers from any of these partners.

MAGIC/Intel has great potential for future enhancements. Now that MAGIC is running on a Windows operating system, there is the potential to take advantage of a wide range of device drivers and application program interfaces (APIs) from our partner vendors. These APIs may enable MEDITECH to perform centralized, serverless backups or to encrypt data streams.

Benefits

MEDITECH's MAGIC Release includes many familiar Windows® conventions:

A graphical user interface that makes applications easy to use
Simple network administration
Multitasking
A Gateway To "Open Systems"

The MAGIC operating system is also designed to operate effectively in "Open Systems" environments. MAGIC can run on a variety of hardware platforms, allowing customers to mix hardware brands in their networks and incorporate new hardware as it is developed. In addition, TCP/IP capabilities enable MEDITECH applications to communicate freely in multi-vendor networks. In recent years, TCP/IP has become increasingly recognized as a standard for linking different computer technologies in networks. This interoperability and use of standard networking protocols lead to an open architecture. Additionally, our MAGIC software has been connected to other major and niche vendors' software to trade information.

Increased Processing Power

MEDITECH has dramatically increased the computing power available to customers by supporting the latest hardware from Dell, Compaq, IBM, and EMC. The latest hardware has 1GHz for faster processing and supports MAGIC on Windows® 2000.
MEDITECH employs standard networking products, guaranteeing a seamless flow of data. The processing power of the Microsoft -Intel® platform and the speed of our networking protocols (including support for Fast Ethernet as network backbones) ensure that users throughout the care network have:

Simultaneous exchange of information
Immediate retrieval of stored data.
Other industry-standard network components used in our HCIS include:

TCP/IP communications protocol
Standard network topologies
Common schemes for Internet addressing
Industry-standard HL7 interfaces.
