Ricoh Introduces Solution to Protect Confidential Documents

West Caldwell, NJ, February 20, 2007 – Ricoh Corporation, the leading provider of digital office equipment, today introduced a new print security solution called Enhanced Locked Print-Extended Edition (ELP-EX) that is designed to protect confidential documents in shared printing environments. ELP-EX builds upon Ricoh’s Enhanced Locked Print-Standard Edition (ELP-SE) and both solutions are part of the Enhanced Locked Print Suite being created by Ricoh’s Document Solutions & Services Division (DSSD).

As the business printer market continues to shift from desktop printers to faster, more cost-effective multifunction devices, document security has become a critical purchasing factor for many businesses that are making this transition. With ELP-EX, customers will be able to reduce their operating costs via a centralized printing strategy without having to sacrifice security. This solution is ideal for any business that requires print security for critical documents that are being printed to shared MFPs, including healthcare companies concerned with HIPAA compliance and financial institutions.

ELP-EX incorporates FlexRelease capabilities which enable print jobs securely stored on one MFP to be accessed and released from another ELP enabled MFP on the network without the need for external hardware or software. Historically, in order for customers to have this level of functionality, they would need to invest in specialized third-party software that resides on a server, which requires an annual software maintenance contract.

Specific security benefits of ELP-EX include the holding of documents at an MFP until they are released by the authorized user, the encryption of documents stored at the MFP (information can’t be compromised if the hard drive is stolen) and jobs stored on the devices are retained even when the device is powered off. ELP-EX is supported by various Ricoh AficioÒ products including, but not limited to, the Aficio MP 5500/6500/7500, Aficio MP C2500/C3000/C3500/C4500, Aficio 3260C and the Aficio Color 5560. In addition, ELP-EX can be installed and configured on the MFP via embedded firmware (Secure Digital Card) or remotely via Web Interface.

“At Ricoh, we are constantly looking to reduce steps and save money for our customers,” said Hede Nonaka, senior vice president, DSSD, Ricoh Corporation. “We are proud to introduce ELP-EX as it is built right into an MFP, with no extra hardware of software to install, providing a simple solution for protecting organization’s confidential and proprietary information.”
