These printers are not usable with Linux :
- Aficio GX3000 only proprietary and undocumented interface
- Aficio GX3050N can use PCL6 but with lower characteristics
- Aficio GX5050N can use PCL6 but with lower characteristics
I have written to the technical support.
3 sept 2007 : Ricoh's Technical support called me and tells that:
- these printers cannot be used with Linux
- the specifications of interfaces cannot be published.
Perhaps is it not completely true. It should be useful to try PCL6 and update the database:

Jarillon,
ALL networked printers can be used under Linux. While it is correct that GX3000 is a Windows only (GDI) printer, all networked printers sold in the US are PCL capable.
In this case PCL6, they can use the PXLmono driver, like most all Ricoh printers in production.
I have these in my lab and they print just fine from all sorts of Linuxes and Unixes.
What is not available for the GX3xxxN and GX5xxxN are linux tools. Still, printing is not an issue whatsoever.
Keep calling tech support, though, that way we might be able to justify development of support even for the windows only printers (USB only)
regards
Uli

How is the print quality for the GX3050N and/or GX5050N? I'm getting very interested in these vs. color laserjets. I only found a not so flattering review for the GX3050N at CNET.

The print quality is as good as a mid-range inkjet, but lower than a high-range colour laser jet, but for price & performance, the results are very good. I produce satisfactory photographic prints on ordinary paper with the GX5050N, but it stripes when printing on expensive photographic paper. Complex pages with mixes of text and graphics can take a long time to emerge from the printer. (This is from Windows. I haven't yet tried from Linux, as I am still setting the printer up to work from SuSE, which is why I am here!)
When cartridges are close to being empty, pages can take a lot longer to print.
I read a review that stated that the prints were very faint. I suspect that the reviewer only ever produced the built-in test page, which I agree is of very poor quality. Normal pages print fine, although I do tend to always print at best quality .

I use the Foomatic HP 3000 Business Inkjet driver. It works a treat and the prints look as good as if they were done via Windows
