Ricoh firmware to prevent non-OEM toner
- Issued a firmware update for Ricoh IM C series and some MP C series of color laser printer/MFPs
- Firmware runs update automatically without requiring prior authorization from customer
- Ricoh will be able to verify chip in toner cartridge and if it does not match it will automatically block device and all of its functions
- User will see an error message on the LCD screen and will not be able to continue using the device until the toner is replaced with a correct one
- Non-OEM suppliers are already working on a workaround solution
