Has anyone installed this on an MP8000 and how does it work? I was told by a Ricoh Digital Support Specialist that this is what I needed for a client who wants to set copy codes and copy limits for each code. Looking for feedback.
How hard is this to install? Does it install on the copier directly.
Thanks,
John

Yes, it installs on each machine. You will need a Java card installed on each copier before you can install it.

It is not that hard to install, although one issue we ran into was that the latest version of the software seemed to not install, we had to drop back one version, then it worked just fine.

As far as how it works, from the customer perspective, they get to the copier and it asks them for a code and they enter it and then can use the copier as normal.

One limitation of the User limits is this:

Let's say you limit the code to 500 copies.

Customer walks up and enters their code and runs 499 copies. That's within the limit so that's fine. Customer walks away.

Next week the customer shows up and logs in, they have 1 copy left so the machine authorizes them. Then they make 10,000 copies and walk away.

The balance in the admin utility will show that they are 9,999 over their copy limit, but once the machine authorizes them, they can make as many copies as they want, it doesn't stop them.

If this is an employee who will be at work tomorrow, it's not a big deal, but if it is a walk-up customer or similar situation, it could be an issue.
