Ricoh Corporation And T/R Systems Offer New Digital Document Production Solution

Introduction of Black and White Digital Multifunction Devices with MicroPress® X Series Increases POD Options

West Caldwell, NJ, September 4, 2003 - Ricoh Corporation, the leading provider of digital office equipment, and T/R Systems, Inc., a leader in developing innovative solutions for the management and production of digital documents, announced today the connectivity of T/R Systems' MicroPress® X Series document production servers to Ricoh's high-volume Aficio® 2090 and 2105 black & white digital imaging systems.

The Aficio 2090 and 2105 are high-volume multifunction systems that print at a rated speed of 90 and 105 pages per minute, respectively, and offer a 1200 x 1200 dpi resolution. Both systems are designed for high-volume copying, printing and scanning in stand-alone or networked environments.

The MicroPress is a document production server for POD customers that bridges the gap between low-volume workgroup printing and high-volume centralized printing through the efficient management of document workflow. By combining powerful document "make-ready" capabilities and advanced job management in a post-RIP environment with advanced workflow tools and unique print device connectivity options, the MicroPress X Series provides customers with a scalable production printing system. The MicroPress X Series includes the MicroPress SX, DX and MX models, each of which addresses a different segment of the print-on-demand (POD) market from low- to high-volume.

Finishing options for both devices include a 3,000-sheet finisher, with 100-sheet stapling in four positions; a 3,000- sheet finisher with saddle-stitch stapling capability for the Aficio 2090; two- or three-hole punch option for creating binder-ready documents quickly and easily; an Interposer, which enables users to insert pre-printed black & white or color pages into documents prior to finishing, eliminating the need to collate and finish mixed documents by hand; and an optional production booklet maker, which creates folded, stapled and trimmed booklets with pre-printed covers. The capabilities of the MicroPress enhance these features through easy job management of mixed black & white and color documents and support for a variety of finishing options - all at rated engine speed.

"We're excited to offer the MicroPress X Series with these two multifunction systems," said Kirk Yoshida, chairman and chief executive officer, Ricoh Corporation. "The combination makes for a POD solution that seemingly provides limitless possibilities for digital document output."

"We're enthusiastic about building upon our strong relationship with Ricoh," said Michael Kohlsdorf, president and chief executive officer of T/R Systems. "Uniting the features and functionality of the MicroPress with those of the Aficio 2090 and 2105 systems provides a very powerful and unique POD solution for Ricoh's customers."
