Ricoh closing Irving, TX office

This is an administrative & billing office in a suburb of Dallas, TX, & another sign that IKON personnel are replacing RBS personnel in key functions. If the Dallas IKON office isn't adding admin/billing personnel, I can't imagine how overworked and overwhelmed these departments at IKON are about to become.

Ricoh Americas Corp., which sells and provides services for imaging equipment such as printers and copiers, plans to close an Irving location, according to a filing with the Texas Workforce Commission.

Some 53 people will be affected by the June 4 shutdown, according to the April 2 letter to the agency.

The letter did not disclose a reason for the closure of the office. Comment wasn't immediately available Wednesday from the West Caldwell, N.J. unit of Japan's Ricoh Co.

According to the corporate data service Hoover's, Ricoh Co. had a total of 110,000 employees and $21.5 billion in revenue last year.

Absolutely, and what is worse is as the billing, delveries are not being handled what will the customer experience going to look like?

Dallas IKON has not hired on anyone in those roles for sometime in fact they have reduced the amount of people doing those functions.

Next will be service, and hopefully they will keep most of the techs. IKON has already had several rounds of layoffs in the service department and Canon and the other dealers for Canon have ravaged the best techs they had anyway.

Most of the production guys now are from Ricoh or were from the Ricoh tech side of IKON.

You anti-Ricoh folks underestimate both Ricoh and IKON's ability to run a business. The closure of that office is unfortunate for the employee's effected, but will have no lasting negative impact on Ricoh or IKON.

I sell RICOH, I like RICOH products, however IKON can't turn a profit and never will, so if you can't turn a profit...... how are underestimating IKON's ability to run a business. Heck, anyone can LOSE money! It's the ability to turn a profit that seperates the men from the boys.

The most recent annual report I could find for IKON was 2006.

Net Income:

2002 $148M
2003 $123M
2004 $ 84M
2005 $ 61M
2006 $106M EBIT $170M

Does anyone have their final annual report?

Found a Global 2006 annual report.

Net Income:

2002 $27M 5.8%
2003 $34M 6.7%
2004 $40M 7.1%
2005 $57M 8.2%
2006 $62M 8.0%

During that period, IKON had roughly 2 to 3% net income. I've not been in the industry long, how did the misconception that "IKON can't turn a profit" become so broadly accepted?

Ikon Office Solutions to lay off 63 in Houston

Ikon Office Solutions Inc. will lay off 63 people from its Houston call center operation as part of the company’s business consolidation.
In a letter to the Texas Workforce Commission dated May 4, the Malvern, Pa.-based company wrote that it “is planning to shut down certain of its business units operating at 810-820 Gears Road” in Houston.
The layoffs are scheduled to begin on July 2.
Ikon provides document management systems and services. It is part of Ricoh Co. Ltd., a $22 billion global digital office solutions provider based in Tokyo.
