MISSISSAUGA, ON, May 6, 2019 /CNW/ - Ricoh Canada, Inc. is proud to announce that it has received the 2019 ENERGY STAR® Canada Manufacturer of the Year Award for Electronics for its excellence in the arena of advancing market transformation on energy efficiency in Canada. This latest recognition acknowledges Ricoh's hard work to promote environmental sustainability, through both manufacturing energy-efficient products and advocating sustainable practices in and outside the organization. Ricoh's accomplishments will be recognized by Natural Resources Canada at a ceremony in Camsell Hall in Ottawa, May 14, with awards presented by Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Natural Resources.
"For decades, ethical responsibility to our society and our planet have been central to Ricoh's identity," said Glenn Laverty, President and CEO of Ricoh Canada, Inc. and Senior Vice President, Strategy Office, Ricoh North America. "All of our activities, from product design to customer interactions, are infused with that spirit. As a global company with millions of electricity-dependent devices that empower digital workplaces, Ricoh is committed to doing our part to keep sustainability top of mind in design, development and day-to-day operations and interactions."
Along with manufacturing ENERGY STAR-certified products, Ricoh has worked hard to encourage sustainable practices through internal programs, customer communications via direct and dealer channels, and special programs. One example of this is the use of electrical vehicles by service technicians within major metropolitan areas. Another is a Toner Management Gauge on Ricoh devices. This gauge helps reduce early removal of toner cartridges by users, minimizing waste and packaging. With this feature, a lock icon will appear next to the toner icons on the user interface, helping encourage workers to not remove the toner until the time is right.
Additionally, Ricoh conducted multiple internal training courses to help employees understand how they can help the company and its customers do more for the environment. Furthermore, 2018 marked Ricoh's 11th year partnering with Bullfrog Power to leverage clean, renewable electricity for its distribution centre in Concord, Ontario, and head office in Mississauga. On a global level, Ricoh was the first Japanese company to join the RE100, pledging to source 100% of energy from renewable sources by 2050, with an interim goal of at least 30% renewable energy by 2030.
"Energy efficiency in our homes and buildings helps Canadians save money, creates jobs, reduces pollution and contributes to our clean energy future," said the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Canada's Minister of Natural Resources. "I congratulate Ricoh Canada for their ongoing leadership in improving energy efficiency in Canada."
