“RICOH AND SUN™ JAVA™ SOLUTIONS
$100,000 DEVELOPER CHALLENGE” ANNOUNCED

San Francisco, June 27, 2005 – Ricoh Corporation, the leading provider of digital office equipment, and co-sponsor, Sun Microsystems, today announced the Ricoh and Sun™ Java™ Solutions $100,000 Developer Challenge at the JavaOne[sm] Conference. This program is designed to encourage creative submissions for both commercial and open source software applications that provide solutions that will run on the Ricoh Embedded Software Architecture platform. Participants in the Developer Challenge must be Premier Plus members in good standing of the Ricoh Developer Program (RiDP).

Ricoh understands that the key to success is through continued and expanded research and development activities. By opening up its platform to third-party developers, the Ricoh Premier Plus Developer can tap into a wealth of knowledge and expertise to further enhance and encourage the development of superior solutions.

Ricoh and Sun Microsystems will start taking entries for both categories on June 27, 2005. Entries into the best viable Commercial Solution category will be judged by perceived and expected success in the commercial marketplace, and will remain the exclusive property of the participant. Most useful Open Source Solution category entries may be for small or large applications and will be judged on their perceived and expected benefit to the community of Ricoh Embedded Software Architecture and Sun Microsystems Java™ Micro Edition developers. All signed application and registration forms must be received by December 31, 2005.

“Ricoh’s dedication to research and development has been able to propel our company forward and create advanced and innovative technology. We are pleased to work with Sun Microsystems to cultivate this challenge. Demonstrating our ongoing commitment to providing customers the best solutions in the marketplace, the Ricoh and Sun Java™ Solutions $100,000 Developer Challenge encourages developers to continue to create superior solutions for commercial and open source software programs,” said Hede Nonaka, vice president of marketing, Ricoh Corporation.

“The Java economy is thriving and is estimated to be a $100 billion market annually,” said Mark Herring, Sr. Director of Java Brand Marketing, Sun Microsystems. “Working together with Ricoh to promote the Developer Challenge both strengthens the Java community, and affords developers the opportunity for entrepreneurship in bringing to market innovative, Java technology-based business and consumer applications.”

Winners will be announced at the Ricoh Developer’s Conference, April 18 - 20, 2006.

The Grand Prize for the Commercial Application includes a $50,000 marketing fund, choice of a Ricoh Multifunction Product (MFP), a one-year maintenance contract and certification of the solution if the solution can be placed on the pricing pages of Ricoh and its subsidiaries and a Sun Workstation. Second Prize is a mid-range Ricoh MFP ($18,000 MSRP) with a one-year maintenance contract, and Third Prize is a low-volume Ricoh MFP ($12,000 MSRP) with a one-year maintenance contract.
