New Universal Print from Microsoft is a cloud-based printing platform that runs on Microsoft Azure cloud

  • Helps customers move away from legacy, on-premise print infrastructure
  • Lessen reliance on print servers
  • 21% of IT decision makers expect to be fully in cloud by end of 2025
    • 36% expect to be mostly in cloud by 2025
    • 31% report that their print environment to be mostly or fully in cloud now
      • 55% expect to be fully or mostly in cloud by 2025 for print infrastructure
  • Universal Print is a Microsoft 365 subscription-based service
    • Business premium subscriptions include 100 print jobs per licensed user per month
    • F3 licenses are limited to 5 print jobs per license
      o Extra print jobs can be purchased in packs of 500 or 10,000
    • Print jobs are pooled, based on aggregate number of jobs allowed across all users
    • Requires Universal Print-compatible printers and MFPs
  • Portal simplifies printer deployment, management and access control
    • Integrated with Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory)
    • Supports single sign-on (SSO)
    • Can be deployed with non-compatible devices with Universal Print connector software
  • Use of print support apps (PSAs) and Mopria standard support enables devices to have custom features without need for custom print drivers
    • In future, users will no longer need to have access to 3rd party drivers and roll them out to all clients
  • Security certifications include; FedRamp, GDPR, HITRUST, ISO 27017, ISO 27001/2 and ISO 27018
