Adelaide-based Printomatic is expanding from synthetic substrates to paper-based print and variable-data after investing $170,000 in a Fuji Xerox 700 digital press with inline finishing.
The company installed the press three weeks ago in a bid to expand its digital capabilities to booklets, business cards and flyers.
Printomatic general manager Greg Birch (pictured) said: "The one we've got is fully packed, it does everything. We've got the finishing module, so we can print booklets off in one hit."
"The print quality alone is fantastic. And the Xerox guys are great. We've got a really good response time from them, so the whole package was the right fit."
Birch described the move as a "natural progression into more paper-oriented stock"- the company had previously focused on wide-format printing on synthetic substrates for banners, posters, stickers and car decals.
"A lot of people have been asking for things like A4 flyers, so this is just somewhere we need to go," he said.
Printomatic was founded in 2008 as the on-demand printing arm of IT company PC Range. The company is currently exhibiting on the PC Range stand at CeBIT show in Sydney.
Birch said that, as an IT-oriented company, the printer was also attracted to the variable data capabilities of the 700 press.
"We can personalise people's flyers and booklets, and segment them by name, or by gender, or by interest," he said.
"Digital printing allows us to fulfil small or large quantity jobs, depending on customer needs, and gives us greater flexibility with critical time frames as setup times are reduced compared to traditional printing."
