MELVILLE, N.Y., Feb. 12, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Canon Solutions America, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Canon U.S.A., Inc., today announced that longtime Minnesota-based graphics provider Pixelwerx LLC has installed the Océ Colorado 1640 printer, placing the company at the forefront of next-generation wide format technology advancements.
With more than a decade of experience managing, designing, producing, and installing large format graphics projects for a national customer-base, Pixelwerx continues its history of staying cutting-edge while never sacrificing quality or reliability. Providing its customers with agency experience, the graphics leader has maintained a reputation for developing creative solutions produced on time and on budget. Couple that with a best-in-class portfolio, Pixelwerx continues to open the door to new and exciting business opportunities with some of the most recognizable brands in the United States.
Keeping in line with its tradition of pursuing next-generation technology, Pixelwerx's most recent acquisition, the Océ Colorado 1640 printer from Canon Solutions America, stands as one the company's most ambitious installations to date. The UVgel powered printer, released in mid-2017, was designed to bridge the gap between current technologies in the roll-to-roll production market and provide its users with robust application versatility. Since installation, Pixelwerx's founder, Adam Carver, remarks the new unit has done just that, and much more.
"From the first time we viewed the product, the speed throughput, productivity, and level of automation really separated it from the rest of the large format technologies available," confirmed Carver. "Further supporting our buying decision was the ease-of-use. For a product producing such dynamic applications, the ease and low maintenance is something we value when working on such high-end, demanding jobs."
Using the Océ Colorado 1640 primarily for backlit applications and the visual impact they have for brand owners and associated high-margin opportunities, along with large decals and banners, Carver's team again must focus on the speed at which these dynamic applications are produced. With UVgel technology and the capabilities it brings – including not requiring intermediate curing – the Océ Colorado 1640 allows Pixelwerx to print at quicker speeds.
Pixelwerx's fleet, however, does not begin and end with the Océ Colorado. Combining its most recent acquisition with the Océ Arizona flatbed, the Minnesota print provider can offer a wider range of output than ever before, and is doing so at reduced costs.
"The cost effectiveness of combining those two has allowed us to consolidate equipment while simultaneously increasing our rate of jobs," added Carver. "When you can promise customers vibrant colors, indoor and outdoor durability, and mostly uninterrupted printing, you set yourself up for sustained success."
As print volumes continue to grow in the wide format marketplace and turnaround times continue to shrink, analysts confirm that more than 40% of production jobs need to be turned around within 24 hours and a majority of those are same-day. For this reason and others, Canon introduced UVgel print technology, helping its customers like Pixelwerx to compete in new market spaces.
"This industry-leading technology is setting new standards in industrialization and automation, while helping create entirely new business opportunities for our customers of all sizes," said Sal Sheikh, vice president, Marketing, Large Format Solutions, Canon Solutions America. "Working with Pixelwerx and other adopters of the Océ Colorado has now given us the ability to push the technology even further. We have no doubt that we can continue to help customers realize new levels of productivity with our advanced large format technologies."
