PHOTIZO GROUP RELEASES FIRST-HALF 2013 IMAGING HARDWARE FORECAST
Printer Market Facing Turbulent Times
Midway, KY - Photizo Group has released its 2013 Imaging Hardware Forecast 360 for the first-half of the year. The forecast provides detailed information on worldwide shipments of digital output devices in the office-printing environment, the consumer market, and the small-office/home-office (SOHO) and small to medium-size business (SMB) markets.
The following summary was prepared by Larry Jamieson, Director of Hardware Advisory Services and Supplies Advisory Services at Photizo Group:
The worldwide printer market continues to be affected by radical changes in IT. Printer shipments for 2012 declined to about 111 million units and are expected to drop to about 88 million by 2017.
The continued development in mobile technologies such as smartphones and tablets, for consumers and business users under the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) movement in the workplace, are changing how people access data. Managed print engagements and the developing digital workflows are changing the types and feature sets of devices in use, with more emphasis on using scanners to enter data into the workflow. In addition, the economy remains an issue as companies continue to look to cut costs to improve short term profitability, putting little emphasis on research and long-term growth, so the employment picture is slow to develop.
The shift to color lasers slowed in the short term, but is expected to regain momentum over time as vendors look to improve products through new feature sets and lower per-page costs, eliminating barriers to new printer purchases. Though consumer ink jets are declining rapidly, developments in business ink jets, especially page-wide-array devices for small workgroups, are faster and offer lower per-page costs than comparably priced lasers and may break laser’s thirty year domination of the office printing market.
The 2013 Imaging Hardware Forecast 360 is available for all Photizo Group Hardware Advisory Service clients, as well as for purchase online in the Photizo Group store.
