I recently sold a customer of mine a 2022S/P.

They had a 1060 with 50 Sheet finisher, 2/3 Hole punch & Print/Scan Kit. We have the total package there with printing and scanning using ScanRouter Lite. He liked the solution but didn't love it since as we all know ScanRouter is not the most stable program.

They call me in for a meeting for scanning their invoices into pdf and naming the file at the machine so SR is not an option but the new 2022S/P is perfect. I hear this dot matrix printer going and asked what it was for and they said invoices. So I tell them about the overlay feature and find out the spend $0.13/per 5 part invoice. The do 6000 invoices per month. I then say I have the perfect solution for you. A 2022S/P scanning using SMB, naming the file at the MFP and printing in the billing dept using a overlay. They love it and say bring it in and we will do the deal if everything works and saving about 8K a year in printing costs.

I am pumped I go from selling a 2022S/P with scanning and almost no copies and no prints to 6000 prints a month on published CPC (I get some $ ea month for CPC contracts)

Delivery day is here and the overlay work like a charm however the scanning is not working. I call 57 Ricoh and get we have no idea...we have not used SMB yet and are not going to try. I was pissed...so we agree to meet the next day and I have to find a fix in less than 24hrs. I go to the hotel and notice Jayson Gilbertson is quite knowledgeable. I call him and get a call back immediately. He gives me some tips but all were already done but said call me if you need some help tomorrow.

So it is tomorrow and Jayson speaks to Chris the VP of IT at my customer and mentions a few things specifically about users permissions. Chris said eveything setting is correct. We hang up, still stuck but what Jayson asked about users, Chris then tell myself and his assnt Stephen about it. Stephen goes on his own tries another user and it works. Then Chris realizes that the server was an upgrade from 4.0 to 2K so it was not a clean install and had some unseen permission issues. We copy that user that worked and renamed it.

It Works! After finishing the destinations, I walk out at 6pm with a signed lease and a very happy customer.

Remember Sell the Solution and read the hotel's messages!

Thank you P4P Hotel, and especially Jayson.

"naming the file at the machine so SR is not an option"

I know this is a fairly old post, but this caught my eye as I was browsing around.

Did you know that you can name the file using the SR program? IF you use either Scan Link(old verson) or Auto Document Link(new version) to grab the docs from an In-Tray save, and have Scan Link or Auto Document Link save to a windows folder....the name you gave it at the Op Panel stays with it. Even our Ricoh Reps said you couldn't name the file from Op Panel....until I demonstrated it to them.

To be honest, though, I can't remember if it works on the 1060, but I think so. It definitly does on 1022's, 1035's, 2022's, 2035's, etc. Ok, yeah, it's an extra utility to run, but it's cool for the customer in the end.

Are you talking about naming the docs from the op panel by storing it? I do the store file, Store & Transmit, File information, name the file and the name stays with it. The only thing is that you ahve to delete the stored files after a while, or they really pile up. Been doing that since the first 1035 came out.
Yes Ted, that's it. There are trade offs. By setting Auto Delete in Key Op tools, though, you can overcome the pile up of stored docs automatically.

Of course, the problem then is it also deletes docs stored in Document Server section. As I said, there's trade offs.

To me, it all depends on the customer. By showing them the options, they can decide what's best for their needs.

We use a 1035 in the office. I tried setting it to delete files after one day, but it never deleted the scanned in files. Just the ones in the doc server. I thought, like you, that the autodelete would take all stored files out. Am I missing something in the setup? I would love to not have to delete these by hand. Let me know. Thanks...
I just did some experimenting with a 1035 to make sure I wasn't imagining things.

When I set auto delete to 1 day, scan and store a document, change the system timer date to any date 1 or more days in the future, the stored docs delete from both the doc server area and the scanned doc store area.

Seems to work like I thought. The only thing I can think of, is making sure the system timer calendar and clock are set right. I didn't make any other setting changes. That doesn't mean there isn't something else different between my machine and yours...

Of course...always make sure firmware is up to date...even though I don't think mine is on this unit. Smile
