VIRGINIA BEACH — Novatech has opened its first office in Virginia and it’s no accident that it’s right here in Hampton Roads.
“We’re investing in growth across the United States,” said Dan Cooper, Novatech’s CEO. However, Cooper saw a huge opportunity in this region — a market he worked in for 34 years.
The nationwide business technology provider is based in Nashville, Tennessee, but Cooper was previously CEO of Electronic Systems Inc. in Virginia Beach, and he maintains a home in the Beach’s North End.
He said the company is committed to Hampton Roads as an employer, business partner and active member of the community.
Founded in 1998, Novatech has 14 locations in Tennessee, Mississippi, Texas, Georgia, Louisiana and Missouri. The company has more than $100 million in revenue and employs more than 500, Cooper said.
Unlike traditional IT and managed print companies, Cooper said Novatech is a managed office provider.
“What that means is we can provide anything the modern office needs to operate and we can remotely monitor and manage it using our two customer care centers,” he said.
Typically focused on the business-to-business market, Cooper said his company can provide an “office X-ray” that enables them to look inside a customer’s network and identify opportunities for improvement and efficiency.
Without an acquisition opportunity on the immediate horizon, Cooper said they instead decided to extend Novatech to Virginia.
The 5,000-square-foot office opened April 1 at 529 Central Drive, Suite102, in Virginia Beach near Lynnhaven Mall.
Kimberly Drumm, marketplace vice president, said approximately 3,000 square feet is office space and the remainder is for product warehouse, inventory and client support.
“Novatech has a thoughtful approach and solutions that are able to help in a variety of environments and allow businesses to keep moving forward,” said Drumm, a Virginia Beach native.
Eight employees have already been brought onboard — including Payton Herrera, marketplace sales manager — and they have openings for sales professionals and service technicians.

Cooper said they anticipate opening offices on the Peninsula and in Richmond, Northern Virginia and the western part of the state.
He said the company grows in three main ways: organically, by cross-selling existing customers everything they do and through acquisition. “Over the course of time we’re going to grow our business very nicely in the state of Virginia; we think it’s a great business climate.”
