I don't think you're going out on a limb, talk is they want to challenge the likes of Ricoh, Canon, Global and KM for dealers as a sole source line and not a secondary line. Was in Office Max today and saw four new products from Sammy on the low end, what out HP, Brother an Epson!
Our dealer rep from Sammy was in late last week to discuss what we need to be able to handle the 11 x 17 release. In Canada they say it will be a 35 and 45 B&W and a 25 and 35 colour. Part of what they see is the ability to bid for larger deals where there is a need for SOME 11 x 17 but they can still do large part of deal with A4 product. He said they expect it for first quarter 2011. They know they are going to be an also ran in some ways but if they get the CPC in line then we know they will be aggressive on the capital side. so far their service backup has been good...how many other brands pay you to do a support call in the first year while under warranty?
We have the Sammy line now, just for monochrome and no color. Kinda wish we had the color too, however Ricoh's new A4 color devices hit in December and maybe we'll have the best of both worlds.

BTW all of the Sammys are running well and generally no complaints here or from my customers.
Yes, I agree, we only picked up the Sammies for monochrome no color, we've stuck with Ricoh for that. I just hoping Ricoh doesn't screw it up with higher cpp than the A3 color machines.....something is telling me that the A4 color will be higher, however I hope I'm wrong. If A4 color price is higher than A3 color, that leaves the door open for someone to develop a color A4 with A3 cpp pricing.

doesnt the sharp frontier series have color cpp right now that is close to a3 color? Seems to me like they're innovating faster and getting new features to market first and getting a share of the margins that come with that. I was really happy when c2050/2550 came to market and we had an edge for a moment, but think about it: print from smart card, free sharp desk seat, a4 color, segment 3's with single pass duplex scanning, pull out usb keyboard... Whats the value in ricoh dragging their feet with all of this?

Seems Ricoh, Canon and Xerox may be the last of the holdouts. When speaking with a rep at Ricoh they were concerned that A4 devices will lower profit (image that,they do make a profit on a box)expectations especially if A4 takes off. With the presence of Sharp, Samsung and KonicaMInolta they needed to make the move. Keep in mind though that neither KM, nor Sharp has come out with an robust A4 monochrome (don't know what they are waiting for here), remember I stated robust A4, something along the lines of a 40 or 50ppm that can handle 20K each and every month.

You should check out the Lexmark XS658dme/dfe. 55ppm, single-pass duplex color scanning, open architecture, scan-to/print-from USB. It can handle 20k/month easy.
Among many other incentives, Samsung is offering a significant per copier Credit Card reward on both their Colour and Black A3 Models to attract sales reps interest in promoting these products.

The products themselves use a mono component toner/developer/drum system with a slightly higher Breakeven cpc.

Due to aggressive intro promos, the copier crooks in my territory are already promoting the product in hopes of big commission cheques. The crooks often cannot get any other new A3 product line to sell. Samsung A3/A4 is sold to dealers through PC Distribution wholesalers who want the volume and do not ask too many questions.
