LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y.—July 6, 2005—Canon U.S.A., Inc., the nation's market share brand leader in black-and-white and color copier solutionsi, today announced the addition of three new digital products to its line of enterprise Canon color multifunction systems. Comprised of the Color imageRUNNER® C2620 and imageRUNNER C3170 Series (C3170U and C3170i), these multifunction devices achieve a new level of document creation, management and control by dramatically increasing the level of workflow customization, information security and document process control options for customers.
"In today's networked world, corporate departments need flexible, IT-compatible tools to keep pace with the speed of business on a global scale," said Sam Yoshida, director and general manager, Product Marketing Division, Canon U.S.A., Inc. "As color is increasingly adopted by corporate environments, so too is the need for multifunction devices to go beyond traditional, paper-based document production to address the expanding need for managing, distributing and protecting electronic information. Today's MFP customers look to Canon to provide the highest quality, next-generation technologies to automate their information sharing and knowledge management across the organization—both in black-and-white and color."
Canon's imageRUNNER C3170 Series: A True Color Communications System for Network and Web-Based Environments
The new imageRUNNER C3170 Series is the first to introduce the convenience of color to Canon's family of cutting-edge Internet-ready MFPs—making it a true color communications solution. Joining the ranks of Canon's flagship monochrome Internet-ready MFP portfolio, the new imageRUNNER C3170 Series offers advanced document management and communication features with the tightest possible integration and control across entire corporate networks and web-based information systems.
Achieving speeds up to 31 pages-per-minute (ppm) (letter) in black-and-white and seven (7) ppm in full colorii, the imageRUNNER C3170 Series is designed to drive exceptional multifunction performance in low- to mid-volume corporate environments primarily printing black-and-white documents, but which require occasional color output. Both devices offer scanning speeds of up to 44 images-per-minute (ipm) at 300 dpi and 28 ipm at 600 dpi (respectively). The devices feature single-drum engine technology to ensure Canon's superior image quality, supporting up to 2400 x 600 dpi equivalent resolution for outputiii.
Canon's imageRUNNER C3170U and C3170i both offer standard color network printing out of the box and ship standard with Canon's proprietary UFR II printing technology. The imageRUNNER C3170U supports 512MB of memory while the imageRUNNER C3170i supports 1GB of memory. The Color PCL/PS Printer Kit-D1, which ships standard with the "i" model, is also available as an option on the "U" model for support of PS and PCL page description languages.
Each model is equipped with Canon's latest Color imagePlatform (iP) controller architecture, featuring a single custom chip design that leverages shared memory resources, inclusive of hard disk and RAM, to efficiently control device functionality. Plus, the imageRUNNER C3170 Series features Canon's MEAP® (Multifunctional Embedded Application Platform) architecture as well as supports Canon's growing portfolio of available MEAP applications. Canon's MEAP technology offers businesses greater control over costs and improved productivity by embedding diverse and customizable applications for a wide range of business workflow requirements.
Featuring Canon's benchmark Web Access Software-B1iv, the imageRUNNER C3170 Series provides an industry-unique solution that offers the ability to view and print Web Pages from Internet and Intranet locations directly from the device's control panel. This function will enable the user to easily view any authorized Web-based information—such as forms, applications, Intranet information, newspaper articles, directions, and PDF files—and print these files without accessing a PCv.
Of key consideration is the Color imageRUNNER C3170 Series' ability to serve as a powerful color communications hub for sharing and managing color documents and information both within and outside the office. Offering Canon's Color Universal Send (standard), the Color imageRUNNER C3170 Series can securely distribute scanned data to multiple destinations, including individual or groups of e-mail and Internet-Fax addresses, internal Mail Boxes, to network or host files and folders, as well as to document management applications such as Canon's imageWARE® suite. In addition, by utilizing Canon's new Universal Send PDF Enhancement Kit-C1, users can maintain complete control over sensitive documents by applying password protection to PDF files to limit file edit, open or print options, and creating searchable PDF files, which allows users to find scanned documents in a file server by keyword, and enables users to extract and reuse text data for creating a new document. Customers can add the optional PDF High Compression Kit-A1 to ensure the efficient distribution of full-color scanned images without overburdening a customer's network.
In addition to offering enhanced security features such as Simple Device Login (SDL) and Single Sign On (SSO) authentication, which provides direct authentication for users to the Windows Active Directory, the new imageRUNNER C3170 Series also provides for improved internal hard disk security through hard disk data encryption (168-bit), as well as an optional imageRUNNER Security Kit for hard disk overwrite protection. For administrators, the systems also come equipped with the capability to set a single device as a reference machine from which management data can be pushed to other specified imageRUNNER devices on the network.
