I'll add the model numbers later, however I wanted to get this down on the forums before it I forgot it.

Basically, and pretty much just like everyone else in the industry the new A4 monochrome multifucntional systems are nothing more than 40 and 50 ppm (I have to review the speeds) fast laser printers with the same doc feeder and GUI (Graphic User Interface) as the Ricoh MPC300 and MPC400.

The system can take up to four paper trays, has a buy pass and I heard that you can also get this system with a stapler/finisher (where it will fit is beyond me). The system will also use a 25,000 page AIO (All in One) cartridge. MSRSP for Cost Per Page for the cartridge is suppose to be under .01 (that's what I heard), keep in mind that cost does not include fuser, feed roller and labor.

I believe the java card and PSIII (genuine) are stand. Not sure what the standard is for the paper trays.

To say the least, I'm somewhat disappointed that one of the best Imaging companies in the world could not get this RIGHT!

What's not right?

For starters since the system is printer based the cost per page will be in line with traditional high speed laser printers. I don't understand what the big deal is, what Ricoh should have luanched is a monochrome A4 device with the cost per page model of an A3 device. Meaning, the toner should have been cartridge based and have a retail cost of .0025-.0029. With the A3 cost per page model we could sell a cost per page agreement anywhere from .008 to .0140 with complete coverage!

Second, come on, the same document feeder and platen glass as the MPC 300 and MPC400! Can't put legal on the glass, can't copy mixed sized originals, WTF I thought Ricoh was a copier company!

I will give kudos to the GUI is clear, well laid out, easy to use and is very SHARP!

All in all, I'm not sure where the MSRP will be for these systems, whatever the price may be it's too much.

Anyone else care to comment on this device?

here are some more slides from the presentation where we were able to play with the machine. The machine has about a 2X2 footprint and holds over 500 sheets per paper drawer. And the MFP version can only have 4 drawers but the printer can have 5. Both the MFP and the Printer use the same consumables and the cost per page is said to be very aggressive. It is very aggressively positioned against similar A4's from other manufacturers and beats the competition in many aspects. The finisher version does limit the output to only 250 sheets, but that should be a big deal, not many people that buy this are printing 300+ page doc anyway
I'm in the same boat OldGlory. I have a bank coming to end of lease in September and the new A4 would be perfect. The customer is looking to downsize their fleet of 13 three year old Lanier mid volume A3 machines. Problem is I have to quote based on what I have now....not on what I might have in October. Could cost me the deal as my competition is in with 42ppm Kyocera A4 tabletops. I am also a Kyocera dealer and would rather not wind up being the lowest bidder to sell Kyocera tabletops. I want to be able to win by offering something better with a fair profit margin in the deal.
