The NECS is not good and a sign of the times. Years ago if you wanted to start a new dealership or go into business for your self you were able to go to the likes, of Adler Royal, Hitaachi, Towa, Copystar, Selex and probably a few others where you could get "Authorized" to service and support the systems, without the oressure of high quotas.

Not having the pressure of the high quotas also allowed you to build the business slowly and remain profitable. Now that NECS is gone, what are the choices? Copystar???

Not a good thing for our industry in my opinion.

One other thing to note is that the OEM business is still important to vendors like Konica and Kyocera.

Even after losing Oce and IKON, which hurt, Konica OEM'd its MFPs to Olivetti, Muratec, (NEC), Sindoh, etc.

Meanwhile, Kyocera OEM'd through Olivetti, (NEC), etc.

A few more exits like this and the manufacturers will have to considering leaving the OEM game, impacting economies of scale, and likely pricing/costs for their own brands.

Sharp seems like the Mfr that is going after the smaller dealers these days. After their financial situation & not selling thru the Global/Xerox channel, they are signing up more new dealers than anyone else lately.
