Ricoh U.S. is pleased to announce the launch of the new Aficio MP 201F and MP 201SPF MFP systems. These new models have the same strong feature sets as the previous model in addition to offering added functionality, productivity, image quality and ease of use. The MP 201F/201SPF will replace the MP 171F/171SPF models. The MP171 basic model will remain in the product line.

The new MP 201F and MP 201SPF systems have faster output speeds of 21ppm and are designed to provide better overall productivity. Aside from the increase in speed, the other major improvement is that True Adobe PostScript 3 is now standard on the MP 201SPF model. Another feature available on the MP 201SPF is the optional Hard Disk Drive. When this option is added, it now includes both DOSS and HDD Encryption that offer advanced security for customers to help assist with their compliance requirements. Automatic duplexing, color scanning and a maximum paper capacity (with options) of 1,350 sheets all remain consistent with the predecessor models.


What’s New and Different:
Increased Printing Speeds – now 21ppm letter, up from 17ppm on the MP 171 Series
DOSS and HDD Encryption are both included in the Hard Disk Drive option when added to the MP 201SPF
True Adobe PostScript 3 comes standard on the MP 201SPF
The Scanner/Printer option is no longer available on the MP 201F
MP 171 basic model will remain in the product line to meet requirements for a low cost copy only product that can be upgrade to scanning and printing.

I see it also has "mail to print" I'm guessing that is the same as "Hotspot Printing" But it says in the brochure that no 3rd party app is required. So does that exclude "Printer-ON' which handles the HotSpot subscription?
I couldn't find any documentation on install or setup in the op manual or service manual. Anybody got any info on this?

At one time I would have said this series was the best built tabletop on the market. Three incarnations later this design is way past its prime. We need a completely new tabletop with speed and a touch screen.

Ricoh is blowing it on A4. They took a hard line stance against A4 machines a few years back and now its biting them in the bottom. Ricoh is our main line but we are selling another manufacturers A4 probably 3 to 1 because Ricoh's product has fallen behind.

The MP1515, 161, 171 are incredible engines, they just run and run without a hicup, I have a few of these that are running 3-5K every month and one was just traded in that had over 200K on the meter. It's not a money maker for the sales person, however it fills the gap when you are replacing a fleet and need a few lv devices that can print, scan, copy and fax.

Think of it this way, if you didn't have these devices in the line-up, your customer may look elsewhere to fill the void and alas they may stumble upon another vendor.

fisher's right, Ricoh dropped the ball on A4 two years ago (I was in a NE region meeting with Ricoh and Engineers from Japan, trying to decide if they needed and A4 device). I also agree that the reincarnated 171 needs a bigger screen and needs some sizzle. Embedded PSIII and DOSS will not make me jump up and down, however the speed increase to 20ppm was a surprise.

They do keep on truckin', I'll give you that. With the big push to MPS, however, customers are looking to move to more of a distributed printing model instead of centralizing on a few big MFP's. Additionally, MPS has forced everyone to learn how to service HP devices if they didn't already, & anyone can pick up faster HP A4 desktops from Tech Data, & the CPP will be very comparable.

I love having Lexmark to fill this whole that Ricoh has left. For the same price as the Ricoh, I can get a 40ppm w/ a full touch screen. It's a no brainer.

I quess that's why the system now comes with PSIII, tho enable the mail2print feature. I have questions also!

Why would I need hot spot when I can have mail2print? Are there any other limitation with mail2print other than if you send multiple attachments only the first attachement would be printed and the fact that mail2print does not support hi compression pdf.

I know there's the cost of the PSIII when working with the other mfp's to enable mail2print. But what's the cost to use the Hot Spot?
